From spending time with street children after school to volunteering for causes instead of going on picnics, Ruplekha Sinharoy, the founder, had a passion for helping the disadvantaged. The story evolved when she began bringing some order into the lives of vagrant children in her colony by getting them to study in her house. Soon, more students arrived with a desire to learn. This is how Lotus Rescue was born in 2013.

Along the way, destitute women with useful skills were enabled to make a living. Today there are schools in Kolkata, Chanda Village (Nadia District),  Tetulia and Panpur-Kakinara. Through education, work, and influencing violent, undernourished families, Ruplekha believes Lotus Rescue can change what she calls ‘the karma of the land’.

MISSION
  • Compassion
Our philosophy is to see change on the outside we must address what is inside. We take pride in developing children with a compassion-centric approach that addresses what is going on inside them as opposed to just the externals like classes and textbooks. We understand them emotionally and guide them through challenges and opportunities. This increases their motivation to learn and grow, and they perform better.
  • Culture
We go beyond lesson learning and undertake personality development so the children are well-mannered and sound in character.
  • Continuous development
Our involvement doesn’t end in the classroom. We monitor them outside the classroom as well; at homes, in the streets. We go where they are and ensure they are making good use of their abilities and not getting swayed by domestic trouble or other bad influences they may be susceptible to.
  • Change of heart
Our success measures are not class attendance, marks, or learnt knowledge. We measure our success by the visible, deeper and sustainable change of heart each child undergoes. Does he want to change? Does he want to rise above his family? Does he want a career? Does he want respect? These are the question we inspire them to live by.
  • Childhood
In addition to educational programs, we take care of various other facets that ensure the children have a childhood. We conduct birthday parties, take them on outings, conduct storytelling sessions, and much more.
  • Career
We inspire children and women to identify their skills and turn them into careers.
  • Clarity
We offer 100% clarity and transparency to donors about the ways in which their money has been utilized.
  • Community
Our larger goal is to give people a sense of community and belonging, from providing children with two proper meals a day to conversational interventions.
